When I applied to be a part of the Indo Ocean Project, I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into. All I knew was that I was graduating college, I wanted to travel, I wanted to dive and IOP seemed like the perfect solution.
I was initially attracted to the program because of the divemaster program. Little did I know how much I would learn about conservation and science during my time there. After graduating with a degree in Biology and a concentration in marine science, I had plans of going back to the USA after the internship and applying for a marine biology masters program.
However, when I finished at IOP, there was nothing else I could picture myself doing other than marine conservation. I fell in love with the subject. After seeing all the beauty in Nusa Penida and learning about all the horrible things happening in our oceans all around the world, I knew that if there was one thing in my life I was going to do, it would be to try and protect our oceans. After a great deal of research, I found the perfect program for me at the University of Plymouth, I applied and now I will be moving out there in September to begin a MSc in Marine Conservation! I am forever grateful for my time at IOP for helping me realize my true passion and leading me down a path that I am proud to follow.
